What is ganache?

A quick leaf through the Gü dictionary finds us with three definitions of the word ‘Ganache’.

  1. verb. To give way to your inner Gü: I ganache Gü with my friends on Saturday night or even on my own in front of the telly.
  2. adjective. Outrageously decadent: That chocolate souffle is sooo ganache!
  3. noun. An indulgent mix of cream and chocolate: I’m addicted to ganache

Here’s what our Head Chef Fred has to say on the subject:

Ahh, mais, oui, ganache is normally a mix of chocolate and cream, but it can vary. I’ve been known to mix chocolate with milk, fruit puree, condensed milk, even infusions like tea – technically, all of these are ganaches. The official culinary definition is that it’s an ‘emulsion of cocoa butter and liquid’, but we think it’s a brilliant way to describe that smooth, velvety chocolate hit you get from a deeply decadent Gü pud. So, Gü you ganache?
